"Dancing with the feet is one thing, but dancing with the heart is another."
If we can get enough people together, we will offer a beginner's belly dancing class. Keep reading to get an idea of what this entails . . .
Belly dancing comes from the heart & soul and it has a story to tell: Yours!!!!!
Begining belly dance will teach technique & movements that you will be using when you create your own dance. The first session includes dance posture, basic belly dance movements, traveling steps, and discovering & using muscle control. Veil work is introduced in this level. Folklore & costuming will be introduced.
The second session: Beyond Beginner Belly Dance introduces more challenging isolations & complicated movements, combining & layering the fundamentals learned in the previous level. Basic Arabic rhythms are introduced along with the use of finger cymbals (zills) and the use of props such as canes & baskets and learning to dance with other dancers.
Practice hip scarves (with coins) will be available for purchase. Dress comfortably, normally yoga pants & a t-shirt are perfect. You can bring a yoga mat if you like for stretching exercises.
Remember: "Stifling the urge to dance is bad for your health, it rusts, your spirit & your hips." (Terry Guillemets)
Belly dance classes will cost $5 per session & will be held at Soldotna United Methodist Church.
